Notable Success of FIT Students at the m:green Hackathon

Students of the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of “Mediterranean” Podgorica successfully participated in the m:green hackathon, organized by Mtel Digital Factory, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development. Through intensive teamwork, innovative idea development, and strong mentoring support, the students demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial, technical, and creative skills, winning first and second place.

The particular value of this achievement lies in the fact that students developed their knowledge and competencies through activities within the international project HMI2MARKET – Upgrading university entrepreneurial infrastructures for human-machine interaction innovations acceleration that foster inclusive employment, injury prevention, and social wellbeing in labor-intensive industries. Through training sessions organized within the project, students enhanced their competencies in digital solution development, teamwork, and entrepreneurship, which they successfully applied in a real competitive and innovation-driven environment.

As part of their preparation for the hackathon, students worked on developing new solutions and ideas in the field of recycling, with a special focus on smart solutions for electronic waste recycling. They were trained to understand user needs, design intuitive interfaces, and apply modern software tools, in line with the principles of inclusive design and socially responsible innovation, which represent one of the key pillars of the HMI2MARKET project.

This success confirms the importance of project-based and experiential learning, as well as the significant role of the HMI2MARKET project in strengthening students’ practical competencies, improving their employability, and fostering stronger collaboration between academia and industry, thus contributing to the development of innovations aimed at inclusive employment, injury prevention, and enhanced social wellbeing.
