Software Solutions within the Course Distributed Software Development
Within the course Distributed Software Development, which was piloted for the first time this academic year at the Faculty of Information Technology, third-year students carried out their coursework in cooperation with MDU University in Sweden, through a modern model of project-based and collaborative learning.
FIT students were organized into five teams, of which two teams worked in an international, multicultural environment, while three teams developed projects with local clients. Throughout the semester, the teams completed the full software development lifecycle – from the initial idea and requirements analysis to the development of a functional prototype and final presentations.
The aim of the course was to provide students with insight into the complexity of distributed software development and to prepare them for working in geographically distributed teams, using modern tools and technologies for communication, collaboration, and project management. Special emphasis was placed on developing communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, including client interaction, time planning, and task allocation.
In the international part of the course, students from Montenegro, Sweden, Finland, Panama, and Colombia participated, further contributing to the development of intercultural competencies and preparing students for work in a global ICT environment. The final products were presented to academic staff and mentors, followed by discussions on technical solutions, challenges, and opportunities for further improvement. The next step – preparing the developed solutions for potential commercialization is planned in cooperation with industry partners in March 2026.
