2013/2014 McCloskey Fellowship Program at Indiana University Call for Applications (Bloomington, Indiana, USA)

Preference in the 2013/2014 fellowship competition will be given to citizens of Montenegro. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to the promotion of democracy and present a plan for a specific local government or civic project that would benefit from the applicant’s residence at Indiana University and be implemented upon return to the home country. Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent; those holding a master’s degree or pursuing graduate study will be given preference. Applicants must demonstrate command of spoken and written English at the level necessary to complete their project.

The fellowship recipient will reside in Bloomington, Indiana for up to three months, during which he/she will also travel to Washington, D.C. The recipient will benefit from McCloskey’s close ties to Indiana University, local Bloomington government and party officials, and NDI’s extensive network of political and civic leaders in Washington and throughout the United States.  The fellow will be appointed as a visiting scholar at IU with full access to library and computing resources. During his or her stay, the McCloskey fellow should make at least one public presentation and complete one piece of writing or research that will enhance the proposed project or demonstrate how the skills obtained through the fellowship will help with the implementation of the project.  The fellowship award will provide a monthly stipend to cover room, board, and miscellaneous expenses. It will also cover all costs associated with transportation, health insurance, visa, and other related fees.

Applicants should send a CV and a letter of interest that details their local government or civic project of interest to IU’s Russian and East European Institute (REEI) at reei@indiana.edu. The letter of interest should also address the manner in which the project would make a difference in the context of a specific challenge that exists in the applicant’s home country.
