Part of the academic staff of the “Mediterranean” University Podgorica on an official visit to Italy

In order to strengthen the ties between Montenegrin and Italian artists, established in 2018 through the European cultural project Interreg IPA, CBC IT-AL-CG, as well as to strengthen the ITI (International Theater Institute) network (UNESCO network) through the ITI Center of Montenegro, eleven representatives of the cultural sector, active both within the institutions of the system and outside them, stayed in Lecce, Italy from April 11 to 13 at the invitation of the University of Salento and Astragali Teatro, and organized by the Italian ITI Center.

In addition to individual meetings of Montenegrin representatives with representatives of the aforementioned Italian institutions, the delegation also had the opportunity to speak with a wider group of cultural workers from the Puglia region. The aim of the meetings was the promotion of the Montenegrin cultural sector, but also the establishment of direct contacts and the exchange of experience, with the intention of creating individual projects that will bring closer the cooperation of the two countries with concrete activities.

The Faculty of Visual Arts of the “Mediterranean” University, through the program of horizontal cooperation, which is carried out in the subject Management in Culture, with the aim of researching the most suitable instruments for strengthening the cultural diplomacy of Montenegro, initiated and supported the mentioned visit, and the Montenegrin team was represented by: Ana Vujošević, actress and selector of the FIAT festival, Biljana Vušović, producer and representative of the Underhill festival, Jelena Božović, academic painter and commissioner of the Montenegrin exhibition at the 59th Venice Art Biennale, Milena Prelević, culture manager and representative of the Institute for Contemporary Art, Ana Janković, executive director and producer of the independent cultural center “201”, Dr. Edin Jašarović, dean of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje, Jovo Vukčević, visual artist and representative of the production company Galileo, as well as professors and lecturers of the Faculty of Visual Arts and the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the “Mediterranean” University: prof. Nikola Latković, graphic designer and art director of the Latelje graphic studio, Katarina Laković, M.Sc., vice-dean of FVU and visual artist, Milena Dragutinović, M.Sc., proofreader for the Italian language, as well as Nataša Kraljević, M.Sc., head of the international cooperation office of the “Mediterranean” University and president of the ITI Center for Montenegro.

Apart from Dr. Fabio Toledo, professor at the University of Salento, director of the Italian ITI Center and theater director, who managed individual meetings and other representatives of the cultural sector of the Salento region, the Montenegrin team was also visited and greeted by the mayor of San Cesario, Mr. Giuseppe Distante. In the evening, the Montenegrin team had the opportunity to attend the performance of a part of the Astragali Theater play “Fimmene” directed by Fabio Toledo, who, after the performance, thanked the Montenegrin delegation for their visit from the stage.

The mentioned visit was organized as the first in a series of bilateral meetings, and it is also planned to formalize cooperation through the signing of several Memorandums of Cooperation, which will define the further exchange of theater performances, the participation of artists in residencies, as well as the further cooperation of the University of Salento with the art faculties of the Faculty of Visual Arts (UNIM ) and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje (UCG).
